“Read So Others Can Begin a New Chapter”

A Feature of the Southeast Wisconsin Festival of Books

Join us on Saturday, June 19th for our annual fundraiser to celebrate and promote literacy. What better place than a Book Festival to help others “begin a new chapter” by supporting the mission of Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha (LCGW).  Look for Read-a-Thon Headquarters in the UW-Waukesha Commons Building. There readers will check in, turn in sponsorships (money they have collected based on pledges to read) and receive a complimentary gift for participating.

Many thanks to sponsors Waukesha Family Practice Center and Waukesha Memorial Hospital, and hats off to "New Chapter Donors" Bas Bleu Book Club, Casual Book Group, Drs. Patrick Flanagan and Marcy McAdoo, Heritage Hills Book Club, Pebble Valley Book Club, Rare Editions Book Club, and Saint Luke’s Lutheran Book Club.

Read-a-Thon Themes:
• What’s Your Favorite Genre?  Choose your favorite kind of writing such as science fiction, fantasy, mystery, and suspense.
• Reading Near or Far.  Pick out some fiction or non-fiction such travel writing, local writing, contemporary, or classic works.
• Living on This Planet.  Read about our environment, food, natural catastrophes, endangered species, gardening, or other similar topics.
• People & Places in the Past.  Select the story of someone's life or of some place from books such as memoirs, biographies, autobiographies, history (especially Southeastern Wisconsin.)
• Books that Stand the Test of Time.  Look for award winners such as Newberry or Pulitzer Prize winners, or choose books from classic adult or children’s literature.
• People to Admire. Pick out a book that celebrates women found in memoirs, biographies, and autobiographies.
• Books for Young Adults.  Select a reading from teen favorites (about vampires or not), or from "Tween" or middle reader favorites.

Join these celebrity readers who will read aloud for 10 minutes followed by 50 minutes of silent reading by participants:

10 a.m.   Waukesha Mayor Jeff Scrima -- People and Places in the Past
11 a.m.   Milwaukee Wave Goaltender, Nick Vorberg -- Books for Young Adults
