The
Volunteers
We could not provide our services without the
dedication and support of our volunteers.
More than 250 volunteer tutors work
one-on-one with students at all skill levels and with a variety
of needs. The Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha maintains
only three paid part-time staff positions.
Tutors receive twelve hours of training in the
Laubach Way to Reading before working with adult new readers.
The Council also offers a nine-hour training course for those who
wish to tutor students in English as a second language.
Tutors and students will generally meet and
work at the public library most convenient to both. Some tutors
do meet in the homes of
students who are homebound by a disability or who lack
transportation or child care.
In addition, many other volunteers serve the
agency by working in the office, serving on committees or
raising money.
