Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha, Inc.,
provides confidential, one-on-one tutoring and mentoring
services to individuals who need help with reading, writing,
spelling, math and English as a second language.
LCGW began in 1986 with a grant from the
Waukesha County Federated Library System and further support
from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. In 1990, LCGW incorporated as a tax-exempt,
not-for-profit organization providing services as an independent
agency.
LCGW is affiliated with ProLiteracy America which is the oldest and largest volunteer
literacy organization in the world.
Funding is provided through donations from
individuals, service organizations and businesses as well as a
Community Development Block Grant and the United Way.
Services are targeted to people who live or work
in Waukesha Country and who are of low to moderate income. These
individuals are at greater risk of being unemployed or
underemployed, working in minimum wage jobs or holding jobs that
require retraining. |
